This is a follow up of my post "This could be really big". More information has now emerged about the new mobile skyping solution called
IPDRUM. This application is in the form of a hardware and software. The hardware is a USB data cable that connects your old mobile phone to your computer and a software to be installed on your PC. Two mobile phones are required, one is connected to your PC using the usb cable and the software allow a connection to be established between the mobile phone connected to your PC and the second mobile phone in your pocket for example. To make a skype call, all you need to do is to call the mobile phone connected to your PC at the cost of a local call and the call will then be routed through the internet using skype. Esentially you can make international calls right from your mobile phones anywhere you are at the cost of local call. You call also receive your
Skype calls on your mobile phone anywhere you are.
This is a break through especially in europe where the cost of international calls from mobile phones is really high. This will make the mobile phone companies rethink their international calling rates.
IPDRUM they said will be available as from mid-august and will cost between $60 and $80.
