The Germany based VoIP provider sipgate has launched a VoIP mobile phone that can be used wherever there is a WLAN connection. The phone is called the F100 and cost just 169 euros. These gives subscribers to the sipgate service more mobility and freedom from expensive mobile phone services. With F100 one can call at the sipgate rates which start from 0 cents. Now one can make voip calls in the office, in cafes or on the road. This is a significant developement since internet hotspots based on WLAN are now common place in major and small cities. The F100 has a dimension of 11 x 45 x 2.2 cm and looks very elegant (see picture). Considering the fact that you cant several other VoIP networks such as Gossiptel, Free world dialup,Sipnet, sipphone, callUk etc for free, this is a significant advantage for sipgate subscribers.
For more information visit F100 WLAN-VoIP webgage ( in german).
While we were still waiting for IPdrum to become available another mobile skyping application has hit the Voip market. EpyxMobile is very similar to ipdrum. Just as in ipdrum two mobile phones are required, one connects to your pc and the other one goes with you wherever you go. The basic difference between IPdrum and EpyxMobile is that your second mobile phone connects to your computer using bluetooth while it uses a usb cable in the case of IPdrum. EpyxMobile also allows one to make international calls for the cost of a local call using skype. You can also receive skype calls on your mobile phone. To use EpyxMobile you need the following hardware and softwares:
1. PC with broadband internet connection runing Skype
2. USB bluetooth receiver if your pc is not bluetooth enabled.
3. 1 extra mobile phone
4. The widcomm(broadcom) bluetooth software-normally comes with the bluetooth receiver.
Check out the EpyxMobile website for more details. You can also check out my previous post on ipdrum.
A new application call Jyve is out to enhanve your skype experience. With Jyve you can now forward your skype calls to your landline or mobile phone. It also has lot of other nice features such as:
Web presence
Auto responder
Browser syncronization etc.
Check out Skype Journal and Jyve website for more details and download.Labels: VoIP News
I have been beta testing VoipBuster for about a week now and it has been working fine. It is very easy to install and use. The graphic user interface design is very simple and i kind of like that, its like simplicity that works. The audio quality has been very good both for PC to PC and PC to phone calls. The biggest feature though is the free PC to phone calls. One can call regular phones in several european countries, USA, Cannada , China, Taiwan, Australia and Isreal for free. The rates to other countries are also about the lowest i have seen so far. Free calls are limited to 1 minute per call if you have no credit in your account but as soon as you buy a credit of at least 1 euro you can make unlimited free PC to phone calls.
Once you buy 1 euro worth of credit you also get a free telephone number that can be called from any phone in the world just like SkypeIN number in skype. I live in germany so i got a german number but i have also contacted the developers to include the possibility of getting a number from another country other than the country of residence. The audio quality has been so good that most of the people i have called with it did not notice the fact that i am calling from the internet.
The problems i have discovered so far are the fact that it sometimes takes longer to get connected to the server and also you have to enter your contacts on every PC that you use. I think these problems can be fixed easily. If you like to try out voipbuster just click on the links on this post or the figure above ( from voipbuster webpage) to download it. So lets keep bursting.
