Imagine Communications Enters SeaChange Certified Partner Program
Imagine Communications, developer of the industry's most powerful and scalable digital video platform, today announced it has recently entered into SeaChange International's Certified Partner Program. Imagine's Variable Bit Rate and statistical multiplexing technology (VBR/StatMux) allows operators to supercharge
their VOD and SDV deployments with up to 50 percent more streams per 256
QAM channel.
With Imagine's technology, three (3) HD-VOD VBR streams can occupy a 256 QAM channel at the same quality as today's maximum of two (2) HD-VOD Constant Bit Rate (CBR) streams. Similarly, fifteen (15) SD-VOD VBR streams can share a 256 QAM channel at the same quality as today's maximum of ten (10) SD-VOD CBR streams. Similar results apply to SDV.
"Our agreement with SeaChange is an important milestone for us," stated Marc Tayer, Imagine's SVP, Marketing & Business Development, "due to their prominent role in the VOD market segment. Interoperability of SeaChange's Axiom Core SRM software and VOD servers with Imagine's VBR/StatMux solution is a watershed event for the cable industry."
Imagine's Quality On Demand GatewayTM (QOD Gateway), part of its QOD Product Suite, integrates Imagine's software on a carrier-grade, off-the-shelf hardware platform, available from multiple suppliers. It employs industry-standard open interfaces and plugs seamlessly into existing infrastructure, allowing interoperability with multiple VOD Servers, Session Resource Manager (SRM) systems, and EdgeQAM devices.
Tom Rosenstein, VP Business Development for SeaChange, added "Imagine has developed a very innovative solution for the industry, which will help operators expand their VOD offerings in a much more bandwidth-efficient manner. This is especially important as HD-VOD demand continues to ramp up. Our initial interoperability testing is showing they're right on track."
Virtually all multi-channel digital broadcast signals take advantage of VBR/StatMux in order to deliver the best video quality at the most efficient bit rate. The addition of Imagine's QOD Gateway system brings these benefits to VOD and SDV, enabling end-to-end VBR and up to 50 percent more streams per 256 QAM channel, while maintaining excellent video quality. The QOD Gateway allows operators to maintain pre-encryption and session-based encryption for VOD, and centralized bulk encryption for SDV.
