Pace Micro Technology Americas Expands its HDMI™ and Digital Content Protection Testing with Simplay Labs™

Pace Micro Technology, a dedicated, global set-top box developer that supplies the world's largest television service providers, today announced it is adding Simplay Labs, LLC to its existing High-Definition Multimedia Interface™ (HDMI™) performance and High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) testing on all current and future Pace set-top boxes in the Americas markets. Simplay Labs, LLC, is the leading provider of testing technologies, programs and interoperability design standards for the high-definition (HD) consumer electronics industry.
As such, in addition to Pace's current extensive electronic protocol (HDMI and HDCP) testing with CE devices, all of Pace's HD products will undergo expanded testing through Simplay Labs to ensure interoperability with the widest possible range of HDTVs and other HD consumer electronics devices.
Pace Micro Technology Americas VP-Product Development Bruce Gureck commented, "As more and more HDMI products are coming to market, manufacturers are now including multiple HDMI ports on HDTVs and set-top boxes must be able to communicate properly with all of them."
"We are partnering with Simplay Labs to expand our field of testing so we will have a more effective means of getting a representative sample of all of the CE equipment in the market. To us and to cable operators, Simplay Labs represents the consumer environment, and is emerging as the new standard for CE device testing," he said.
Simplay Labs, LLC President Joseph Lias added, "We applaud Pace for expanding their interoperability testing to include our Labs' testing. Our suite of tests offers a thorough verification not found with other testing services, and is based on real-life usage situations that consumers encounter with HD equipment," he added.
HDMI is the de facto standard connector for high-definition consumer electronics devices, including TVs, set-top boxes, DVD players and A/V receivers. In addition, HDMI is rapidly growing in the game console, PC and mobile markets, as manufacturers meet consumer demand for multimedia convergence. More than 130 million devices featuring HDMI are expected to ship in 2007, according to market researcher In-Stat.
