3COM Announces 3 New VoIP Products
Unperturbed by the recent move to privatize the company, 3com has stormed the VoIP market with three distinct products that would serve the VoIP demands of both small and medium-sized business. The announcement of these products might look somewhat unrealistic bearing in mind that there is an on-going negotiation on the need to privatize the company, nevertheless the products have come to stay.
These new VoIP products are the VCX connect 100, the VCX connect 200 and the 3com Asterisk Appliance. The first two are solely the initiative of 3com while the last comes as the result of an OEM agreement with open source VoIP vendor Digium The VCX connect products are designed based on the company’s older VCX platform which was targeted at larger organizations. They include IP-PBX capabilities with a VoIP call control and unified messaging. The expected users for the VCX concoct 100 ranges from 30 – 100 and the VCX connect 200 is targeted at organization with maximum number of 250 users.
According to the 3com marketing Director, Kevin Flanagan, the VCX products are developed in order to meet the growing demand of enterprise-class IP telephony users that use as few as 100 phones and to provide them with more affordable means. Stressing the need to make the products available to as many organizations that indicate interest irrespective of the number of users, it has partner with open source VoIP Vendor Digium to OEM its Asterisks Appliance and placing a 3com UI on it and supporting it with our global service organization, which we believe no other open source telephony provider can do, we are making this technology available to the smallest organizations.
This partnership of 3com with Digium might pave way to attracting more customers to use the service especially when a new product –AA250 is rumored to have been developed by Digium and might be available soon.
