New bill to consolidate VoIP industry

The VoIP industry is soon to experience a much solid support as regards emergency (E911) calls over the VoIP lines going by a bill that is still under deliberation by the US congress.
The bill, 911 Modernization and Public Safety Act, would enable VoIP providers to directly obtain access to the backbone of the E911 system. This will also pave way for related opportunities such as the one enjoy by the landline and cell-service providers in terms of security.
While speaking on the importance of the bill, the chairman of the house subcommittee on telecommunications and the internet, Rep. Ed Markey, said that “the E911 legislation is designed to ensure that a consumer calling 911 in an emergency from an internet phone can do so with a degree of confidence matching that of traditional phone service and wireless service. ”
It is expected that the bill would address those basic issues connecting E911 to it use on the internet such that it can function on features like voice, video and data traffic.
