Vonage sued by verizon for violating seven patents

Vonage which has become one of the fastest growing internet services provider is battling in court with verizon who claimed they have infringed on their patents right.
Vonage ,which is the largest voip provider was accused of violating patent covering telephone features and the use of wi-fi to place phone calls. It will be drastic to see vonage loss, because a lot of smaller providers may be forced out of business and currently it seems verizon will win although vonage dispute their claims.
So far, Judges side with the Baby bell (verizon) saying there was enough evidence that will allow all the company's claims to go to trial. The accuser, verizon is seeking unspecified damages, and they are ready to prevent vonage from using the services any more.

We also understand that each member of a household may want their own unique number so we offer as many numbers as the customer wants. We take pride in offering a depth of services that other providers stuggle to match. One of the favourite features our customers like is the inclusion of 'per-second billing' so they are only charged for the duration of their call. SIPURA SPA9xx Series Launched by Cisco.

Sipura SPA 3000s was popular within Asterisk community although the 1st sipura SPA-841 which was a decent IP phone was noting to get excited about because looked bad and didnt have high quality feel especially the buttons.
Cisco, the owners of Linksys ( which previously bought sipura) is coming out with SPA 9xx series as Linksys products. This series is the improved version of sipura 841.
Linksys SPA921 is the cheapest among the released SPA9xx series but offers same values as others just not all the same features. It also have a 10/100 Ethernet switch so that if you only have a single Ethernet drop to a desk you can plug that into the phone and the computer into the phone and remove the need to buy another switch.
. SPA922 have back light for LCD which SPA921 does not have. All the SPA92xx series only work with session initiation protocol (SIP) but having SPA 922 also incures another extra cost of purchasing POE injector if you dont already have a PoE compatible equipment because without it won't work.

Keyspan VP-24 A Cordless VoIP Phone Review.

For those who want a VoIP handset but have an aversion for cords, the Keyspan VP-24A is a good option. . Keyspan VP-24A voip handset is compatible with PC and Mac. Installing it is so easy, just simply insert the CD to your PC or mac, Plug the USB dongle, after fiddling the AAA size Ni-MH rechargeable batteries into the phone. Press a button on the dongle, and hold the phone near to the PC or mac to establish a connection. After this, you can now make unlimited voip calls. This portable phone of about 116.7 mm in length, 50.3 mm in width, 25.5mm in height and weighs just 92g with battery, fitting nicely in the palm.
VP-24A receives via 2.4 GHz wireless signal with good sound quality at both ends and you can easly adjust the real time volume control to suit your taste. When fully charged it's battery can accommodate 15 hrs of talk time and 1200 hrs stand by time. This voip phone is easier to install than most wifi phones and those that use skype often and like the traditional phone style of making phone calls from the PC would find it more interesting, since you can juggle two incoming calls and can even start a second call while you are still in conversation with your first caller or use the assigned skype speed dials.
This phone is a voip phone to have, but one mistake from the manufacturers which they need to adjust is this, the phone doesn't show contacts status, whether the status is set to away, not available or don't disturb, you wouldnt know and this can really be embarrasing when you mistaken falls into a person who cares about status criteria.

Clustering technology for Asterisk launched by Ranch Networks

Ranch networks announced today, the availability of its voip matrix technology (TM), the company's newest innovation is a patent pending clustering technique fabricated to increase security, scalability and reliability all over asterisk server farm. The company is a provider of networking devices to enable easier and enterprise grade voip deployments.
Enterprises and service providers are now able to combine one or more Asterisk servers with a Ranch Networks (RN) devoicing – creating a IPPBX that aids a huge number of simultaneously calls, thanks to the latest voip matrix technologies. Theoretically, the voip matrix technology is capable of aiding tens of thousands of simultaneous calls employing an asterisk server farm, just like a web server farm. The new voip matrix technology ranks calls higher than data on its priority list, and it is bridged with the RN device to ensure No dropped calls on the voip network.
Even if an asterisk server is not plugged, the RN device bridges the RTP media between the SIP endpoints, enabling media to flow continuously without being interrupted. Every new calls is subsequently distributed among the remaining PBXS in the cluster. As consumers needs grow, this technique, which is a securely scalable solution enable them (the customers) to add move PBXS.
Alex Pavlovsky, the president of Ranch networks said “the needs of voip customers is fully understood by Ranch networks. Customers need not bother about the security, quality and scalability of their voip systems when utilizing the voip matrix technology solution, call centers, enterprises and service providers can increase network capabilities with this clustering technique.
Using a single IP address and MAC, customers can have easy access to the universal IPPBX, including any one of the servers involved. SIP heal messages are used to monitor every asterisk server used to create the virtual IPPBX within the cluster. A PBX will be taken out of the cluster in real time immediately it stops responding to the SIP health monitoring messages. It will also be immediately added back to the cluster when it starts responding to the SIP health monitor ring messages. Consumers can also add a new IPPBX in real time and also remove an existing IPPBX for maintenance purposes thanks to the voip matrix technology.
Available in the market now is the voip matrix Technology with the. RN 20, wand 41. you can buy the RN series of devices through asterisk distributors and resellers globally. Please contact www.ranchnetwoks.com for a list of retailers and other information.

Mobile operators use concilio to lower their capital expenditure needed for the deployment of all IP mobile solutions. Also wi-fi access authorization is made possible without the need to invest in an own wi-fi acess infrastructure and roaming mechanisms. Access control to corporate wi-fi networks is based on SIM cards and the easy as the same centrally controlled voip network can be connected to multiple RANS, irrespective of their geographical location. This would allow building of global operations with minimal investments in the role of a new type of MVNO.
With concilio, existing voip networks are turned into mobile core networks, and systems such as Cisco call manager, become mobile switches and IMS application servers.

Hamid Akhavan, CEO of T-mobile : Mobile VoIP wont have Major Impact!

One Europe's largest mobile phone operator's CEO Hami Akhavan said at the 3 GSM conference in Barlelona that voip will have far less impact than those offered over fixed-line networks. He said there are lot of Technical issues that make mobile voip services difficult to implement, technical issues like how networks pass on IP addresses of mobile users have not been completely resolved. He further said take reachability for instance, how can the call come to me?. Hamid Akhavan also said issues like always-on connectivity and emergency phone call are still big issues that affect the growth of voip especially mobile voip. Staying on the net on mobile networks takes up bandwidth and data packages are not quite cheap yet.
Eric Lagier, skype director of business development for hardware and mobile, called the lack of attractive flatrate fees for most mobile phone services a key commercial obstacle to mobile voip usage. He continued by saying at 2006 3 GSM world congress, skype and Hutchison 3 Group (Hutchison 3G) partnered and hoped to become the world's first commercial voip service for mobile phones, since Hutchison 3 G offers IP-based mobile broadband networks in several European markets, and was one of the mobile phone operators to embrace voip, a technology many in the industry view as a major threat to their cash cow voice business.

Asterisk metamorphoses into an Appliance

Configuring a working system was quite challenging for people with limited technical abilities or folks who are quite uncomfortable in the linux environment despite the availability of Asterisk for many years. Asterisk, though quite interesting is very difficult for many to learn, therefore, Asterisk has made very little impact on mainstream IP Telephony. That fact may be significantly altered by Asterisk Now.

EYEBALL VOIP COMPANY LAUNCHES ANYFIREWALL ENGINE, GOES INTO AGREEMENT LICENSE WITH NOKIA

VoIP call completion company, EYEBALL has finally launched Anyfirewall engine; it comprises of a firewall and Network address translation (NAT) traversal SDK that incorporates the construction of TURN, ICE and STUN. With Anyfirewall server, the engine ensures 100% call finishing for voice over internet protocol phones, applications and services.
The rapid elevation of internet has cause a global shortage of IP addresses. ISPs, enterprises and home routers manover this trouble by using NAT to hide different private addresses in one single public address which interferes with voip calls. Chris Piche, the CEO of Eyeball says " until now firewall and NAT traversal has been the biggest obstacle to voip adoption, we have pionnered voip call completion since 2001 and we are happy to introduce and release it to partners worldwide". He further stated "we are going into agreement to license our product into Nokia's smartphones, voip infrastructures, IMS, WiFi and WiMax deployments" He concluded.
Vice president of marketing and sales network at Nokia says Nokia is embracing the vision of telecommunications that IP is making available. Eyeball's Anyfirewall Engine and server is currently available for deployment and licensing and as many subscribers demand IP connectivity features in FMC phones, firewall and NAT traversal will become an industrial issue for mobile phones users.
