Chatdate Revolutionizes Internet Dating With VoIP

Chatdate, a nine weeks old dating site, has been the first to run its voice and video services on VoIP in New Zealand. Allowing users experience one-on-one virtual dates right in the comfort of their homes. It makes use of an associated service ‘txtnudge’ which provides text messaging, prompting people to hook up. It also provides online shopping for those who are not interested in dating, giving opportunities to agencies eyeing gender-specific advertising markets.
The VoIP platform has allowed Chatdate to offer more than just the conventional tools of normal dating sites, creating a more intimate experience for users as admitted by Chatdate director Chris Cadbag, accounting for a daily sign up rate of 6 to 7 users, in addition to its 400 signed up users.
Commenting on the irony between dating websites and its technology, Cadbag said “the concept of dating websites is a 21st century one, but most other dating sites don’t embrace 21st century technology” he was also quoted to have said “Chatdate is reaching out to the over 60 age market- a group that has been scared to try out internet dating”
Chatdate VoIP deployment comes just a week after internet giant eHarmony broke the news of its merger with Jajah, a VoIP provider, to enable it provide a click-to-call service for its customers.
Believe me, wether you say VoIP or VoDP (Voice over dating protocol) on the Chatdate website you will be communicating.

Google Phone. How True Is It!

Reports have it that internet search engine giant, Google, is making preparation for the debut of its phone, “Google Phone”.
Having refused to issue out any authentic statement, Google has preferred to remain silent about the issue in the face of rumors manifesting in all kinds of pictures and images claiming to be the phone prototype, everywhere.
On a personal voyage I found some incredible images of supposed “Google Phones” on the internet. Though some looked liked modified Nokia N series. A waste of imagination in my opinion.
With Google VoIP not yet seeing the light of day, I hope Google phone would be a reality soon. How successful, we wait to see how the bigG intends to achieve this.
Isabel Aguilera was quoted on Noticas.com (a Spanish news site) as saying “some of the time the engineers are dedicated to developing a mobile phone”. Throwing more light as regarding the Google Phone.

Betamax Launched VoipWise with Free Unlimited Calls to 35 Countries

Without even allowing the dust to settle on the launch of nonoh betamax has gone ahead to launch another voip application nicknamed VoipWise. Apart from the name and GUI colour scheme there is no much difference between voipwise and other previous betamax clients. I like the name voipwise because it kind of saying you should be wise when you use betamax voip products, which is what i have been telling my readers along. Betamax voip applications still have the lowest rates in the voip market and the voice quality is great on broadband connection but the lack of customer support and the ever changing list of free destinations is allways a cause for concern.
To use voipwise you need to download the application from www.voipwise.com, install it and register for a username. Note that all the usernames you have used for other betamax products will not work because they use essential thesame server for all the applications. What i normally do now is to add the name of the application to my username for example my username in voipwise is solokayvoipwise in this way i dont run out of usernames that i can easily remember. Installion and use of voipwise is really ease and straightforward much like all other betamax products. The following countries call be call absolutelly free: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada,Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States.
Also voipwise enables users to send free sms to all the destinations listed above and both phone and sms rates to other destinations are quite low. Above all, from my experience with betamax products i will like to list below my advise as to how to use betamax products wisely:
  • 1. Never choose a betamax product only because of free destinations alone. Use a betamax product that have some of your destinations as free and some at low rates. In that case if your free destinations are removed you can still use your credit to the paid ones you really want to call.
  • 2. Dont switch too soon because of some new free destinations. Let the dust settle before you switch, in that case you will know which destinations betamax really want to offer for free in the new application
  • 3. Use direct callback instead of PC-to-phone. Quality is always better. Five cent per call is not too much to pay in order to guarantee good quality
  • 4. Use forums like voippark etc and blogs for support, betamax has no customer support. Dont even border to send them e-mail. Maybe this will change in the future nobody can tell.
Using these as my guide, i have been using betamax products for more than three years now without complain. If you have other ideas as to how to better use betamax products dont hesitate to share it with us here. Have fun making those FREE calls!.

A new service that enables users to make free calls to londline and mobiles in North America as been launched by MegaFreeCalls. If you get a working USA proxy and do the neccessary settings in interner explorer you will be able to use the site to call USA and Canada for free. But there are also so many other services that let you call both countries for free without the need to get a proxy or do any modifications to your internet explorer settings (Majority of which i have rewritten about on this blog, just use the google search box below this article to search this blog) and you might want to use those if you are not resident in North America.

VoIP Announces Second Quarter Results

VoIP, Inc., a leading provider of turnkey Voice over Internet Protocol communications solutions, today announced results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2007.
"This quarter was one of building the business - paving the way for future growth," said Anthony J. Cataldo, VoIP, Inc.'s Chairman and CEO. "We executed according to plan and, as recently reported, saw July revenues increase 59% sequentially from June to approximately $852,000, primarily reflecting the 47% improvement in total termination minutes of use on our network. In addition, the average price per minute charged to our customers rose approximately 15% sequentially. In August, we are experiencing even greater traffic over our network, and expect revenue for the month to climb well over $1 million, with a corresponding increase in total termination minutes.
"Going forward, we will look to drive margin expansion as we continue to leverage our state-of-the-art network to increase minutes, streamline our operations, and rapidly grow the business," Mr. Cataldo continued. "Having completed the initial investment in our infrastructure, we are now positioned to service over 50 million households and businesses, offering improved quality and service to our clients nationwide. During the remainder of 2007, we plan to further build out the network, which will enable us to service over 200 million subscriber and enterprise lines by year end - with the most reliable platform in the industry.
"In addition, the recent completion of our reverse stock split allows the Company to attract a wider audience of investors who can appreciate our rapidly-evolving story; and at the same time, we have reduced the Company's debt, improved our balance sheet and provided for increased financial flexibility, as we finalize plans to provide capital for future growth. We are encouraged by our increasing traffic and improving fundamentals, and we expect our operations to post strong growth during the second half of 2007 - positioning VoIP to truly become the leading provider of internet-enabled communications in the U.S."
Financial Results
Revenue for the second quarter was $1.9 million, as compared with $2.0 million for the same period in 2006. The negative gross profit of $456 thousand (23% of revenues) in 2006 reflects costs paid to third party vendors that exceeded the revenues we charged to terminate the calls of our customers. For the same period in 2007, our negative gross profit was $126 thousand (7% of revenues). The gross profit improvement in 2007 was achieved by using lower cost routes and negotiating more favorable pricing. The Company's operating loss for the quarter was $5.1 million, versus a loss of $6.8 million for the second quarter of last year. Net loss for the second quarter, excluding discontinued operations, was $5.8 million, versus a net loss of $5.0 million for the second quarter of 2006. The 2007 second quarter loss includes $3.5 million in litigation credits and a $0.9 million credit to reflect the fair value of the Company's warrant liability; the 2006 second quarter includes a charge of $4.7 million in relation to the warrants' fair value. Net loss applicable to common stockholders, including discontinued operations, for the second quarter was $11.9 million, or $(1.60) per share, versus $5.2 million, or $(1.47) per share, for the second quarter of 2006. The Company's weighted average common shares outstanding rose to 7.5 million during the second quarter of 2007 versus 3.5 million last year, with both periods adjusted to reflect the Company's recent 1-for-20 reverse stock split.
For the first six months of 2007, VoIP reported revenue of $3.6 million versus $4.2 million in the same period last year. The negative gross profit of $1.6 million (39% of revenues) in 2006 reflects costs paid to third party vendors that exceeded the revenues we charged to terminate the calls of our customers. For the same period in 2007, our negative gross profit was $477 thousand (13% of revenues). The gross profit improvement in 2007 was achieved by using lower cost routes and negotiating more favorable vendor pricing. The operating loss was $9.9 million for the six months ended June 30, 2007, as compared with a loss of $15.7 million in 2006. Net loss for the period, excluding discontinued operations, was $19.9 million, versus a net loss of $17.6 million for the first six months of 2006. The 2007 results include $2.5 million in litigation credits and a $2.7 million increase in the fair value of the Company's warrant liability; the 2006 second quarter includes a credit of $3.4 million in relation to the warrants' fair value. Net loss applicable to common stockholders, including discontinued operations, for the first six months of 2007 was $25.4 million or $(4.10) per share, versus $19.0 million, or $(5.51) per share, for the same period in 2006. The Company's weighted average common shares outstanding rose to 6.2 million during the first half of 2007 versus 3.5 million last year, with both periods adjusted to reflect the Company's recent 1-for-20 reverse stock split.

Enterasys Introduce Security System for VoIP

Enterasys has recently unveiled a security system for enterprise VoIP networks. This system is nicknamed Enterasys Secure Open Convergence and comprise of Enterasys security software applications and the company's switching, routing and wireless infrastructure products. It is designed to detect and respond to security threats against the IP telephony infrastructure, enforce network access-control policies, and comply with regulations such as CALEA and E911, Enterasys says.
The Enterasys NAC and Dragon security software detects unauthorized use of VOIP systems, prevents service disruption and eavesdropping, and monitors voice networks for new threats. The Dragon Intrusion Detection/Prevention System offers signature and protocol behavioral analysis for H.323 and SIP protocols.
The Enterasys NAC software assesses, authenticates and authorizes VOIP users and telephony devices before allowing them onto the network, and enforces role-based policies after they are connected, Enterasys says.
E911 compliance is enabled through location services in Enterasys NAC that identify the user and physical location when an emergency call is placed. Compliance with the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) allows individual voice conversations or calls to/from a specific user to be redirected from an Enterasys Matrix switch for subsequent recording and analysis, Enterasys says.
The company's switches, routers and wireless connectivity devices also have embedded policy-based security features on every interface, the company says. The company's Matrix switches are able to separately secure and prioritize a phone, camera, printer and computer connected to a single network port and provide flow-based visibility over individual voice, video and data conversations, Enterasys claims.
Policy is controlled through Enterasys' NetSight suite of management applications. Policies are based on user and application rather than port or VLAN access control lists, Enterasys says.

VoIP Growth Rate Outpaces PSTN in China

VoIP use has been growing at an explosive rate in China and has now exceeeded that of PSTN. ReportLinker , a market research engine has reported that the use of both legal and illegal voip has now surpass that of its Public Switched Telephone Network counterpath.
The volume of IP calls in China almost was 110 billion minutes up to September 2006, which is an 11.8% increase year-over-year. IP calls accounted for 43% of long distance calls. The share of VoIP in the long-distance market is forecasted to exceed the total long-distance PSTN and mobile calls in the next two to three years, the report found.
Meanwhile, China also is seeing an increase in illegal VoIP calls, which have been growing 30% every year from 2003 to 2006. Last year, illegal international call volume was about 500 million minutes.
As China yields to the World Trade Organization's requirements, it will experience increased foreign presence. This should give rise to aggressive competition in the country's VoIP market.
Traditional telecom operators became more open to the idea of next-generation networks and VoIP last year, as they began participating in the construction of such networks. Additionally, businesses in China now have a deeper understanding of VoIP. Unlike individual users, business users view VoIP as an opportunity for combining voice and data applications rather than lowering their phone costs, said ReportLinker.
The maturity and decrease in the cost of VoIP equipment also has prompted small- and medium-sized businesses to adopt the technology. As a result, VoIP equipment has increased in scale.
The compound annual growth rate of VoIP equipment spending by Chinese businesses will amount to 48% in the next 5 years; they will spend 4.2 billion Chinese yuan renminbi in 2009.
Large VoIP equipment suppliers, such as Cisco and Avaya, accounted for the majority of the sales in China last year.

Junction Networks Partners Vicorp to Jointly offer Voice Solution for the SMB Market.

Junction Networks, a provider of next-generation SIP services targeting the small and medium-sized business market, and Vicorp, a provider of VoiceXML service-creation tools, today announce an agreement to offer enhanced speech services on Junction Networks’ onSIP Hosted PBX platform.
The initial applications, a speech-enabled Dial-by-Name Directory and a Customer Survey, will be offered to Junction Networks onSIP Hosted PBX clients by October.
“Junction Networks has been delivering advanced services tailored to the needs of small and medium businesses since 2004,” said Robert Wolpov, president of Junction Networks. “With the release of onSIP, our growing base of more than 3,500 clients can leverage advanced third-party applications, such as those developed by our partner, Vicorp, without any technical expertise.”
Lee Cottle, chief operating officer of Vicorp, noted, “Building services is a very different model from building applications. Instead of designing custom applications, we’re building stock templates that an administrator can configure in minutes and activate without the need for any professional services or support.”
By leveraging Junction Networks’ Open Source IMS network published API, it was simple for Vicorp to create these initial application templates using its xMP development environment. Vicorp is also offering tool and training bundles for other application providers looking to design services that can be easily integrated into the onSIP platform.
“We’re quickly becoming a core conduit for application and service vendors to reach the SMB market,” said Wolpov. “Not only do we support any SIP-enabled endpoint, such as IVR and call-recording platforms, but with our revenue-sharing model, we give partners the opportunity to create highly scalable recurring revenue. The onSIP Applications Exchange will showcase internal and partner developed applications side by side.”
Dial-by-Name Directory and Surveys will be available through the onSIP Applications Exchange starting in September and will complement Junction Networks’ existing ACD Queue, Auto Attendant/Menu and Business Hours Applications. Custom voice applications will be available for onSIP clients through Vicorp also starting in October.

Call Several destinations FREE with Nonoh's Web based Click-to-Call Service

Nonoh is the latest service launched by Betamax, the company behind voipbuster, voipcheap, internetcalls etc. Nonoh is clearly targeted at Jajah and they want to show that their rates are lower than those of Jajah and the truth is they are really much lower. With Nonoh you can call more than forty destinations for FREE. This will not be suprising if you are somebody who has been following Betamax releases. The destinations are basically the free destinations that existed in other betamax voip applications. Also "web-activated telephony" also referred to as click-to-call has been available on all betamax voip client as direct callback for some time now. A little over a year ago they also launched webcalldirect which is a web based click-to-call service much like this new service Nonoh.
To use Nonoh just go to www.nonoh.net and register for account. To call just enter your number, your contact telephone number and click call, immediately your phone will ring and you will be connected to your contact. Just for the sake of those who are new to Betamax products, with Nonoh you can call the following destinations for free:
Argentina (Landline), Australia (Landline) , Austria (Landline),Belgium (Landline), Bolivia (Landline), Brazil (Landline), Bulgaria (Landline), Canada (Landline & Mobile), China (Landline & Mobile), Croatia (Landline),Czech Republic (Landline),Denmark (Landline),Estonia (Landline),Finland (Landline),France (Landline),Germany (Landline),Greece (Landline),Hong Kong (Landline),Hungary (Landline),Ireland (Landline),Japan (Landline),Latvia (Landline),Malaysia (Landline),Netherlands (Landline),New Zealand (Landline),Norway (Landline),Panama (Landline),Peru (Landline),Poland (Landline),Portugal (Landline),Puerto Rico (Landline), Romania (Landline) , Russian Federation (Landline) ,Singapore (Landline),Slovak Republic (Landline),Slovenia (Landline),South Korea (Landline),Spain (Landline),Sweden (Landline),Switzerland (Landline),Taiwan (Landline), Thailand (Landline & Mobile), Turkey (Landline),United Kingdom (Landline),United States (Landline),Venezuela (Landline)
I have been following Betamax products for more than 3 years and two things are always right, the audio quality is really good and rates are the lowest in the market and Nonoh is not an exception. Infact rates for some countries are actually reduced when compared with other betamax products. But the problem with Betamax is that they have no customer support and their unorthodox business methods, most of us just dont like the idea of launching thesame products under different names in order to make people pay the required minimum credit required to enjoy the free calls. But if you dont mind these two negatives and your country or a destination you call frequently is part of the free destinations, i say ENJOY.

Sir Richard Bramson believes VoIP is possible on Virgin flights

Engadget's Paul Miller sat down with Sir Richard Branson during the inaugural flight of Virgin America airlines and post the question to him if it could be possible to implement technologies such as voip on Virgin flights without it resulting in a situation where people starts annoying their next neighbor by talking too loud on the plane.
Sir Richard Branson replied as follows: “If somebody really wants to talk to somebody, we might well have a couple of rows at the back where people can go and make a call there. We wouldn’t really want to have people talking next to each other, but a place on the plane where people can make a call if they really wanted to, if we had VoIP, then that might be possible.”
So Sir Richard Branson believes they could implement voip on their flights someday to enable passengers to communicate cheaply with their loved ones on the ground but it will be on desginated seats on the back of the plane. Something i think its a cool idea.

VoIP, Inc. announced today unaudited results for the month ended July 31, 2007. The Company reported a 58.7% increase in monthly revenue, to approximately $852,000, compared to June, 2007, primarily as a result of a 47% increase in total termination minutes of use of its Network. Revenue for the 2007 month of July increased by more than 100% compared to the same period a year earlier.
VoIP also announced that as a result of improved pricing due to enhancements it has made to its Network, the average price per minute charged to its customers increased by approximately 15% compared to the prior month. New traffic increased at an even higher rate. The Company expects usage to further grow significantly in August.
"We believe we are now starting to see the results from the investments we have made in building our Network," said Anthony J. Cataldo, VoIP, Inc.'s Chairman and CEO. "While July showed a significant sequential increase in revenue and use of our Network, we expect further momentum in August as customers expand their use of our Network. The recent sale of certain assets of our Dallas Division reflects our continuing restructuring and cost reduction efforts and attempts to deploy the Company's assets in further expanding its Network. We believe our Network provides a key point of differentiation for VoIP, and will continue to invest in growing it to support expanded use by our customers. With the increase in higher-margin revenue, VoIP is on the verge of reaching cash-flow break-even."

gotalk Prepaid VoIP goes Head-to-Head with Skype in Australia and New Zealand

In an industry first, fast growing Tier 2 telco gotalk limited today announced that they have this month added prepaid VoIP to its entire range of Australian and New Zealand Cardcall phonecards – making its service directly competitive with Skype – the world’s most popular VoIP service. (NOTE: Skype, a unit of eBay, has 196 million registered users internationally – including Australia.) CardCall, a fully owned gotalk subsidiary, is the major phonecard distributor in Australia and New Zealand – recently adding Telstra’s “Say G’day” and “Super Buzz” international calling cards to their extensive stable.
gotalk CEO Steve Picton said today that gotalk Prepaid VoIP will enable phonecard users to make huge savings by sending their calls over the internet, instead of using the regular telephone network. The only requirements are a broadband internet connection, a PC and a microphone/headset.
The customer benefits of prepaid VoIP are considerable, including:
• Free registration • Free quality softphone • Free additional local telephone number • Free VoIP to VoIP calls within Australia and within New Zealand (not between) • Free connection fee option on all calls • Free Voicemail • No Contracts • No monthly account fee • Extensive Australia and NZ coverage • Untimed local and national calls at a low 10c • Low cost rates to mobiles (24c timed) • Low cost calling card rates to all destinations • Quality 24 hour Customer Care helpline
Mr. Picton was named Queensland’s Technology and Telecommunications Entrepreneur of the Year on July 19. He said he was delighted to announce the addition of prepaid VoIP to gotalk’s extensive range of prepaid Telco products.
“A recent research project undertaken by PhoneChoice, “Home Phone and Internet Provider Comparison (July 2007)” specifically compared gotalk prepaid VoIP with Skype Pro. Based on typical usage, the PhoneChoice survey clearly showed gotalk’s prepaid VoIP was cheaper overall than Skype’s Pro,” Mr. Picton said.
“When you add in the fact that gotalk is an Australian owned company, a full service telco business offering 24/7 locally available customer service – (as opposed to Skype who can only be contacted by email) – I believe gotalk can be seen to be a more than competitive alternative to Skype,” Mr. Picton said.
“The same survey showed gotalk’s international phone call charges were between 57% and 77% cheaper than all of its Australian competitors – Telstra, Optus, AAPT, Primus and Dodo – so there are a number of reasons for customers to change to gotalk for all their telco services.”
“The new gotalk prepaid VoIP service will enable customers to access the phonecard’s super cheap rates either from their PC (VoIP access) or conveniently from any telephone they choose (phonecard access),” he said.
gotalk prepaid VoIP offers users a first class VoIP service with the best of both worlds - Cardcall’s great phonecard rates and the flexibility and control of prepay. gotalk prepaid VoIP is simple to download and easy to use, with so many benefits that it is an ideal option for new VoIP users - and a very attractive alternative for anyone currently using or considering Skype.”
“Users of existing phonecards simply need to visit http://www.gotalk.com.au/prepaidvoip/ select 'Get Prepaid VoIP' and enter their existing PIN number and contact email address. Customers will then receive a softphone download via email and off they go to make phonecalls through VoIP - it is THAT easy,” Mr. Picton said.
Retailers benefit from our gotalk prepaid VoIP service because it results in: • An increase in the number of customers that make purchases (including customers that have moved away from phonecards to use other VoIP services such as Skype) • An increase in traffic to retail sites, allowing retailers to cross sell other products (example Internet cafe user now purchasing a phonecard in store and using the credit on the Internet Cafe PC, plus purchasing snacks / drinks while using the service). • The ability to offer customers this great new product feature without the need to stock anything other than the great range of CardCall phonecards or CardCall vouchers All CardCall phonecard point-of-sale will contain the below image, leading customers this service.

eHarmony Integrate Jajah VoIP

Internet dating giant eHarmony has fully integrated Jajah's Click-to-Call service with their online dating platform. This will enable eHarmony members to talk to each other anonymously over the phone simply by clicking the other member’s name. This is clasical case of using voip to enhance online dating experience.
According to Greg Waldorf, CEO of eHarmony, " Telephone calls through Click-to-Call would never compromise the anonymity eHarmony offered. Until today, you lost anonymity once you went to the voice stage. But this (Click-to-Call) keeps you as much in control of your information disclosure as you are when you use email."
In this now highly competitive VoIP market, companies can no longer survive by offering only voice call services alone but must innovate and come up with services that can not be rendered by PSTN providers. Unliked SunRocket Jajah is doing this very well and i believe they will be in the market for a long time to come. Also innovative companies such as eHarmony are taken advantage of this wonderful technology to improve the quality of their services.
