DeCarta Mobile Ready for Deployment
With a view to providing
a framework for development of mobile mapping applications, DeCarta has launched deCarta Mobile which is client/server architecture with a Java 2 platform Micro Edition (J2ME) client application programming interface (API).The company said that this application has been designed such that it provides mobile application developers with the ability to implement modular fluid maps, panning, zooming, routing, geocoding, reverse geocoding, and pin overlays into their applications.
DeCarta Mobile Server uses the company's geospatial software platform, Drill Down Server, and can be deployed at a customer's facility or accessed as a hosted service from deCarta. DeCarta Mobile Client, the software's API, supports the functionality needed for many location-enabled applications used for mobile search, routing, and mobile tracking.
The company also said that they have improved since their last announcement and although the API was initially available for J2ME environments with an iPhone implementation it is now available with complete source code and sample application code. Customers can modify the application to reflect their own branding needs or use a map interface that has been optimized by deCarta for the mobile environment. In addition, deCarta Mobile is compatible with JSR 179-based GPS implementations as well as Wi-Fi and cell-tower-based location technologies.
